At just 23 years old Maria Garcia Estrada from Santa Cruz had a bright golfing future but that was snatched away in September 2005 when she died from Sarcoma cancer. Golf was her passion and now continues to be a rallying point for the fundraising efforts of the Maria Garcia Estrada Foundation, on 8th October the 7th edition of the memorial tournament takes place at Real Club de Golf de Tenerife at El Penon, Tacoronte. To date the annual event has raised 205,000 euros and promises to be another day of competitive golf in the stableford format combined with a concerted effort to boost the fund for research.
Green fees for the day are 40 euros, the presentation meal is 40 euros, or you can enjoy both for just 70 euros, just book at the Real Club website. As well as prizes for the first three places there are special rewards for nearest the flag at the 16th and 17th holes, and men and women each have a chance to win a longest drive prize at the 18th hole. After the days play during the presentation evening there will be a big raffle with many prizes donated, a further chance to add funds to the cause.
